Meet Dr. Choi

HyeYoon “Helen” Choi, D.D.S., M.S.

Dr. Helen Choi was born and raised in South Korea until she started attending boarding school in England at age 12. After having wonderful experience and time in England, she decided to explore a larger world and decided to move to the United States.

Dr. Choi states, “Ever since I had my braces as a teenager, orthodontics has always been my passion and love. So, in order to continue my education and pursue my career as an orthodontist, I went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where I earned my B.S. in Biology.”

Dr. Choi’s next stop was at the prestige dental school, University of California, San Francisco, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. From there, she further completed her outstanding orthodontic residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, together with a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology.

Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Choi completed written and clinical examinations where her own orthodontic treatment cases were critically reviewed by examiners. Board Certification is a high level of achievement that demonstrates Dr. Choi’s personal commitment to providing lifelong quality patient care. She is also a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, and the American Association of Orthodontists.

Dr. Choi takes special pride in her volunteer work. During dental school, she traveled to Honduras on a dental mission trip for the first time to provide dental care to limited access to healthcare population. After helping those people and feeling gratitude, she was determined to continue the mission. Next, traveled to Uganda with her church group and currently participating in yearly dental mission trip to Dominican Republic.

In her spare time, Dr. Choi enjoys traveling as well as the life in Manhattan, including trying out trendy restaurants, going to park, art museums and performances as well as attending classical concerts. Recently, she began learning golf, dreaming of the day she could play on a real green grass course.

“Becoming an orthodontist in Manhattan is a dream come true for me. I’m thankful and thrilled every day to do what I love, which is helping people smile because of successful orthodontic treatment. Most importantly to me, I enjoy the relationships that build with my patients during the course of treatment!”
